Methodology

Review Criteria

We don't rely on gut feelings. Our ratings are calculated by a rigid, transparent algorithm powered by AI analysis of raw specifications and community sentiment.

The Scoring Algorithm

Every treadmill starts with a baseline score of 3.8. Points are added or subtracted based on hard data points.

Commercial Grade
+0.5 Points
High Performance Motor (>3.5 CHP)
+0.2 Points
Heavy Duty (>350lb Capacity)
+0.2 Points
Lifetime Frame Warranty
+0.1 Points

Community Sentiment Analysis

Specs don't tell the whole story. A treadmill can have a 4.0 HP motor but break in two weeks. To combat this, our AI scans Reddit (specifically r/treadmills, r/running, and brand-specific subreddits) and review aggregators to find patterns in user experience.

Positive Signals (+0.15 Score)

Our natural language processing looks for consistency in praise. Keywords like "tank", "solid", "responsive", and "great service" boost a machine's score.

Negative Signals (-0.40 Penalty)

We penalize negativity heavily. If users consistently report "broken deck", "dead motor", "terrible support", or "glitchy software", the score drops significantly.

Generative Content

Our written reviews are generated using Google's Gemini 3.0 Pro model. We feed the model a strict JSON dataset of specifications, warranty information, and aggregated user sentiment.

The AI is instructed to:

  • Ignore marketing fluff (e.g., "Burn calories fast!").
  • Contextualize specs (e.g., explaining that a 2.0 HP motor is weak for running).
  • Compare the machine to others in its specific price bracket.
  • Maintain an objective, critical tone.
